Not My Phone's Puppet

"...Speak (Lord) for thy servant heareth!" -I Samuel 3:10b

Hi there!  Glad you "stopped on by" my blog today!  You're probably kind of curious as to what the title of this post is referring to - so let me tell you! Lol!

I was at a movie theater with my Dad and Mom recently and before our show started, the usual announcement that tells you to silence your phone comes on, only this one was different.  Instead of just telling everyone to put their phone in silent mode so that it doesn't ring mid-movie, the announcement said something along the lines of this..."We know that the small lighted screen in your pocket is begging for your attention, but don't let it!  What you're here to see is way better!  So resist the urge to be on your small screen, and pay attention to what you're here for - the big screen!" And that was even a short version of how they got the point across! (Insert wide eyed look here.)  Wow!  What is becoming of our society?!  I shook my head at how sad it is that we can't not look at our phones for just an 1 1/2 hr. movie, because information of what's going on in the world and other's lives is so addicting now.  I may not look at my phone during a movie at the theater, but I do about a TON of other times throughout the day.  That moment got me to thinking more about what God had already been prompting my heart about.

God has been laying on my heart about putting first things first!  I haven't been doing a good job of that of late. :/  I'm realizing just how much of conversation with God I've been neglecting and how much blessing I've been missing out on in my relationship with Him, because I'm replacing it with news feed scrolls throughout the day. Before internet was accessible at any moment in my pocket, and was just at home and at work, I only got on a couple times a day to look things up.  The rest of the day, I had more "free thought" space and talked and communed with God more. But now, I just pick up my phone at any "lull" in the day and fill that time with not near as fruitful things.

Don't get me wrong!  Internet at my fingertips IS incredible and I'm grateful for it! I use it for work production on-the-go, it's helped me with countless projects, seeing what my friends are up to is fun and being encouraged by their lives is a gift! Being on social media isn't bad, but is God first in all of this good stuff? Hmmmm.

God has just been laying on my heart to be a better steward of the technology that He has given me!  I'm not going to "cut" myself off from my phone and social media sites, but I am going to ask God to help me be more wise in my use of it and them by cutting down on the time I spend there.  I want to draw closer to my Beloved Lord and Savior and those He's placed around me and use my phone and it's social media sites as tools in my mission for the eternal Kingdom!  (Instead of my phone "controlling" me like a puppet with it's "call" for constant attention!) ;)

I want to have my ears tuned in to any "alerts" from my Savior!  I want to be ready for a "call" from His heart to mine and for any "text" (aka His Word) that He wants me to act on! ;)  I want my heart and mind focusing on what He loves about me, (because He created me and knows me better than I know myself) and not so much on what other's "like" about my life in picture or status form. ;)

I want to live with my heart always saying, "Speak Lord, for your servant heareth!" and my mind right on board too, not stuck in news feed information overload! (Seriously - a news feed can be addicting-ly mesmerizing! Like my finger won't stop scrolling down for more! Ahhh! Or maybe that's just me. :P) Lol!  Anyhoo, I hope you get the heart of this blog post and are encouraged by it!!!  It's always exciting when God says, "Hey child of mine - let's spend more time together!" And whatever He tells you to put lower on the "life list" is ALWAYS worth doing it! ;)

"Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.  Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.  Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.  For whoso findeth me (wisdom), findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord." -Proverbs 8:32-35

"...Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.  Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face continually.  Remember His marvelous works that He hath done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth." - I Chronicles 16:9b-12

"And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel.  Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth." - I Samuel 3:10

Blessings to you and whatever God is calling you to do in order to put Him first in EVERYTHING! Be a servant ready and alert in mind and heart for His mission that only you can live out in this life!!!
